Towards the end of the year we made several trips to our place in Mason, Texas, which is my absolute favorite place to shoot. The wide open spaces, river, and golden sunsets make for a wonderful backdrop, and I’m grateful my family doesn’t get tired of me snapping away. 😉 Here are some favorites from this season.
“Though she be but little, she is fierce” – William Shakespeare
This adorable little family was a joy to shoot, particularly since they are friends of mine. This Shakespeare quote came to mind while I was editing their images. Their daughter’s bold gaze is just mesmerizing! When I took the last shot below I was afraid the backlight would spoil it, but it turned out to be my favorite from the gallery. Those blue eyes and pale skin, she’s such a beauty isn’t she?!
Last year my sister and I started a tradition of a cousin photoshoot to give our parents a photo collage for Christmas. With streamers and cupcakes as props (and who doesn’t love both?!), we ended up with some classic shots. Of course their Gigi and Papa loved their gift!
I feel very blessed this year for the opportunity to help a number of families with their holiday portraits. This was my second time to shoot this sweet bunch, and their little guy definitely came ready for his close up! I can’t believe how much he’s grown up in the few short months since I did his first-birthday shots.
I met up with this sweet family recently on a very chilly Sunday afternoon. Actually, it was down right freezing! I personally left my coat behind in favor of a white shirt – wearing white can help throw a little light on your subjects which can be helpful on a cloudy day. Needless to say, I was chattering by the end of our session! These two little dudes were good sports though, still managing some smiles despite the overcast, wintery weather.
If you’ve ever visited Austin, you know that one of our town’s signature areas is South Congress. It’s a funky mix of old (think Lucy’s in Disguise Costumes) and new (think boutique hotel San Jose) like so much of Austin is. I met a dear (and very talented baker) friend and her family for some fun portraits, and this area didn’t disappoint! After stopping here, be sure to check out her amazing and delicious cookie creations on insta!
I recently met a sweet family at one of my favorite natural spots in Austin. It has been a record fall for rain in central Texas, so I knew the creek would probably be up. I was not prepared for what we found though – a literal river off a ledge that is normally dry! It was quite a sight. Luckily this family was up for a little water play and didn’t mind the puddles. We even got some hints of fall thanks to some sycamore trees at the water’s edge.
With the weather starting to cool, our little family headed west to the charming town of Wimberley, Texas. We staid at Montesino ranch, which is an active farm while also hosting guests and weddings. When we first arrived, the kids headed towards the beautiful garden. A man there introduced himself to our son as Farmer John, and promptly showed him how to pull a carrot from the ground. He was delighted to see what was at the end of those green tops! After that we couldn’t keep him out the garden (luckily Farmer John didn’t seem to mind). There’s nothing like some time in the wide-open outdoors to really help you slow down and enjoy what’s right in front of you.
Photographing littles is one of my favorite parts of photography. Those innocent gazes and big curious eyes are mezmorizing. I had the pleasure of photographing this little guy and his sweet parents in celebration of his first birthday. The classic smash cake of course made an appearance in our session, although instead of hands this little guy planted his heel into it. Hey, it’s his party right?! I’m sure it was still quite tasty from the look on this face. 😉
