A Dramatic Entrance

The newest addition to this sweet little family made a dramatic entrance into this world, with a serious fever scare and stay in the NICU.   Thank God everyone is doing well now!

Newborn shoots are some of my favorite.  Parents are beaming, siblings are bright eyed and curious, and then there is that adorable new born!  This little guy gave me lots of beautiful gazes, which is one of the reasons I like doing these shoots at a month or two old (rather than a few days old).  Here are some favorites from our time together.

Our Slice of Country Heaven

Towards the end of the year we made several trips to our place in Mason, Texas, which is my absolute favorite place to shoot.  The wide open spaces, river, and golden sunsets make for a wonderful backdrop, and I’m grateful my family doesn’t get tired of me snapping away. 😉  Here are some favorites from this season.

Though She Be But Little, She is Fierce!

“Though she be but little, she is fierce” – William Shakespeare

This adorable little family was a joy to shoot, particularly since they are friends of mine.  This Shakespeare quote came to mind while I was editing their images.  Their daughter’s bold gaze is just mesmerizing!  When I took the last shot below I was afraid the backlight would spoil it, but it turned out to be my favorite from the gallery. Those blue eyes and pale skin, she’s such a beauty isn’t she?!

Ready for His Close Up

I feel very blessed this year for the opportunity to help a number of families with their holiday portraits.  This was my second time to shoot this sweet bunch, and their little guy definitely came ready for his close up!  I can’t believe how much he’s grown up in the few short months since I did his first-birthday shots.

The Great Outdoors

With the weather starting to cool, our little family headed west to the charming town of Wimberley, Texas.  We staid at Montesino ranch, which is an active farm while also hosting guests and weddings.  When we first arrived, the kids headed towards the beautiful garden.  A man there introduced himself to our son as Farmer John, and promptly showed him how to pull a carrot from the ground. He was delighted to see what was at the end of those green tops!  After that we couldn’t keep him out the garden (luckily Farmer John didn’t seem to mind).  There’s nothing like some time in the wide-open outdoors to really help you slow down and enjoy what’s right in front of you.

The Rain Couldn’t Stop Us

A few weeks ago our family was lucky enough to rent an otherwise booked cabin with some friends on the river in New Braunfels Texas.  My husband Paco has committed to helping our family explore new places in central Texas, so this area was naturally near the top of our list.  We knew going into the weekend that it was going to down pour most of the time, but luckily by Saturday afternoon we were able to take a little dip.  It was a more beautiful spot on the river than we had anticipated, and the tall cyprus trees were awe-inspiring.   Already early September, most of the tubers were done so we had the river to ourselves.  Nothing like some time on the river to soothe the soul.

And Now Families of Our Own

A dear old friend recently contacted me about a session for her family.  Our friendship actually goes back to 5th grade, many girl scout camping trips, marching band, and even freshman year of college (we were roommates)!  It was wonderful to meet her sweet family and hard to imagine how much life has passed since we last saw each other!  Here  are some favorites from our shoot.

Following a Calling

A friend recently shared with me that God has called her family to start an electric bike company for our area.  After a number of events/conversations that were too many to call coincidence (and could only be confirmation), she and her husband took the plunge and purchased a fleet of electric bikes.  I went for a spin on one with them a few weeks ago to capture some images for their new business as well as their family.  I’d never ridden on one before, and it was so much fun!  We took a spin across Mo-Pac outside of the Travis Country neighborhood and down the new pedestrian bridge that crosses the scenic greenbelt.  They will be officially open for business this fall, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for their little enterprise!

Let Her Eat Cake!

With their daughter’s first birthday right around the corner, I met this sweet little family to capture some fun images of them together.  As a mother of two myself, I certainly have a special place in my heart for one-year-old’s and birthday celebrations!!  The shoot of course wasn’t complete with out a cake to mash those precious little hands into.  I think it’s safe to say she enjoyed it ;).  Happy birthday little lady!

Making the Leap

For the last several months I’ve been eyeing Canon’s website to snag one of their refurbished 5D Mark IV cameras.  This is the latest of their legendary 5D series that is used by a large majority of professional Canon shooters.  While my 6D has provided me with stellar image quality over the last year, I really wanted a better auto focus system (these kiddos move so fast!).  Turns out those refurbished cameras are actually new cameras returned from retailers because they don’t have the new c-log added (more of a video feature).  What a deal! I finally pulled the trigger, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

ps. Congrats to the Rankin family on their beautiful baby boy!!!  Thanks for letting me help capture all this sweetness.
