Following a Calling

A friend recently shared with me that God has called her family to start an electric bike company for our area.  After a number of events/conversations that were too many to call coincidence (and could only be confirmation), she and her husband took the plunge and purchased a fleet of electric bikes.  I went for a spin on one with them a few weeks ago to capture some images for their new business as well as their family.  I’d never ridden on one before, and it was so much fun!  We took a spin across Mo-Pac outside of the Travis Country neighborhood and down the new pedestrian bridge that crosses the scenic greenbelt.  They will be officially open for business this fall, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for their little enterprise!

Let Her Eat Cake!

With their daughter’s first birthday right around the corner, I met this sweet little family to capture some fun images of them together.  As a mother of two myself, I certainly have a special place in my heart for one-year-old’s and birthday celebrations!!  The shoot of course wasn’t complete with out a cake to mash those precious little hands into.  I think it’s safe to say she enjoyed it ;).  Happy birthday little lady!

Making the Leap

For the last several months I’ve been eyeing Canon’s website to snag one of their refurbished 5D Mark IV cameras.  This is the latest of their legendary 5D series that is used by a large majority of professional Canon shooters.  While my 6D has provided me with stellar image quality over the last year, I really wanted a better auto focus system (these kiddos move so fast!).  Turns out those refurbished cameras are actually new cameras returned from retailers because they don’t have the new c-log added (more of a video feature).  What a deal! I finally pulled the trigger, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

ps. Congrats to the Rankin family on their beautiful baby boy!!!  Thanks for letting me help capture all this sweetness.

Surprise Surprise

My step brother and his wife decided to wait to find out the sex of their second child, so we were all very excited to find out that it was a boy (with a full head of hair!).  Here are some favorites from our newborn shoot, which included two very large but gentle giants!

A Texas Tradition

There is a long standing tradition in Texas to have your family photos done while our state flower, the bluebonnet, is in full bloom.  They blanket hillsides for miles around, and you’ll often see cars pulled over in the best spots getting those precious snaps.  Ironically, a little-known fun fact is that rattle snakes also love bluebonnets!  Thankfully we didn’t encounter any on our recent mid-day shoot just outside our south austin neighborhood. 😉

A Cup of Sugar

I met up with my dear friend and talented baker Angela Cruz last weekend for a little baking extravaganza! Her cookie designs via her business A Cup of Sugar have been delighting eyes and tastebuds in Austin for several years now.  Made with a cup sugar and a lot of love, here are some shots from our cookie magic-in-the-making photoshoot!

Under the River and Through the Woods

Last weekend our family joined another clickin’ mom and her daughter to explore the seemingly magical Sekrit Theater in East Austin. This little venue is a photographer’s dream!  Many little nooks and crannies to explore and catch some wonderfully playful moments.  Here are some of my favorites from our shoot, which included some fun headshots for my husband who is also the talented DJ Paco De La Familia!

SoCo & a Little Bling

I met up with Vanessa of Aurora’s Blush handmade jewelry and the lovely model Grace Gloria on Austin’s funky South Congress strip last weekend.  We were there to shoot Vanessa’a new line of hand engraved jewelry.  Her bohemian and elegant pieces worked perfectly against the gritty and colorful background of South Congress, and Grace donned them beautifully.  Here are some highlights from our shoot!

Buda Renewed – A Fun Location

My sister had at the great idea to do a photoshoot with the cousins as a gift for the grandparents.  We had to meet mid-day, so we needed somewhere with lots of shade to create even light.  My husband suggested the newly redeveloped Buda Mill & Grain.  Some landowners that he knows through his work at Hill Country Conservancy played a big part in helping to restore this historic location. It created an interesting backdrop, and the kids had a blast with the balls, hats, and glitter!
